    Hi,

Is there any way to make the album edit page have pagination, or something to prevent it from loading all the hundreds of thumbnails at once? When I want to go edit an album that have 500 (or more) pictures, it takes forever to load all the thumbnails and it consumes a lot of bandwidth too.

It also seems to crash my host server for a while, or at least it times out any web page requests to the whole site for a while when I do that. I did a precache earlier too.

This is possible, but will require significant development work. I suggest you enter a ticket suggesting this capability as a feature enchancement. Then it will be put into the poll on zenphoto.org. We intend to use this poll as direction for what features are important to our users.

I hacked my core files and took out the loop that drops thumbnails into the dropdown box because I've got a few hundred images and it was killing performance.

Is there another way I should handle hacking the core?

This is rediculous. Whats the purpose of using Zenphoto when it takes forever to edit albums. I have over 3,000 galleries and 600,000 pics withing those galleries. I transfered them over from plogger, and now i can edit and album because it takes over an hour to load.

This gallery system is made for individuals that dont have much work to show, and definetly wont expand on this system.

I love everything else, but not having pagination in album edit page will hurt the zenphoto project to become a premiere photogallery system.

Ive done my research and reliable sources love zenphoto but said its not ideal for big website. I didnt understand why. Now I learned the hardway

So, what do you expect to achieve with this attitude? It's your 2nd post in two months so you did not even try to ask us about this...

But I even tell you what to do to solve your problem:
Set the album thumb selection to a fixed one instead of a random one addtionally to the tip of my collegue above. Zenphoto is filesystem based which is why you could transfer your images easily. But it only generated thumbs on request, if they are viewed. If you have a random selection it goes through your loads of images to pick one and then generate this.
Of course if you have quite big images your server might not have the power to handle these, esepcially if there are several at the time. Of course organizing albums in subalbums helps as well.

Btw, this is all info you would have found on a proper research on our site and forum.

Also, if you think a little there is no pagination because how would you do drag & drop sorting otherwise?

I dont have an attitude about it but was fustrated. I spent hundreds of dollars in help and alot of time to customize my zenphoto on the back and front end. I didnt really think about this issue until i transfered 3,632 galleries, and over 650,000 photos from my old system and encountered this drawback. (We are a small company).

So over a day trying to figure a solution, I got fustrated. I never usually go on a forum for help. I was hoping maybe there was a solution that I didnt know about. However, I will be developing a work around for this, which will include moving albums orders with pagination. However, it will take me some more time.

Zenphoto is a near perfect gallery system. I can share ideas privately on solutions can be implemented in your next release easily.

Thank you for a quick response.

By all means make a ticket for your suggestions.

I can understand your frustrations, spending that kind of money for a "free" bit of software.

Please also understand our frustrations with the kind of post you made. First, I somehow suspect that we have seen about $0 of the hundereds you have spent. That's ok (but donations are always appreciated.) We work because we "believe" in Zenphoto.

I always donate. But im waiting to finish this project launch. Ive funded many project developers.

Money is not an issue with me. Some of the paid gallery systems fell short in areas where Zenphoto excelled at. Thats why i went with the free zenphoto.

Ill pay you to make new features that I need. Ask the guys over at main guys over at plogger. :x

I personally do not take such assignments. I am retired now and do not wish to be in that rat race. No slur intended, but many clients are really SOBs (or at least sometimes behave as if they were.) Who needs that aggrivation.

You might find acrylian interested, though. But your best option is to make a good [un emotional] case for your feature request--specially why it matters to more than just you. You do such via our ticket system. If you convince me, then the work will get done.
